Description
This necklace is so pretty, but it's kind of funky too. I got this tricolor 14mm x 10mm fluorite about 10 years ago. Fluorite is a relatively soft stone so much skill, time and concentration is required to bezel set them. While I have set them before, even in the tough emerald cut, I have so many easier shapes to work with that this one sat and waited. Then I had the idea to drill it into a bead, eliminating the need to set it. Amazingly, I accomplished the hand drilling successfully, without the use of a drill press. I was so happy that it is even straight! I am one of those people who can't cut paper in a straight line to save my life! I have tried to drill some more since this one, and have broken them all! So I believe I had beginner's luck when I did this one, and most likely will not accomplish it again. It is strung with rich purple color enhanced fresh water cultured pearls, smooth spiral bi and tri color fluorite tube beads and tiny rhodolite garnet accents. I like the juxtaposition of the organic curvilinear feel of the fluorite tube beads and pearls against the rigidity and geometric emerald cut of the focal fluorite. I think that's what I mean by "funky." It is strung with a 14k lobster claw clasp to about 16 inches in length on a durable synthetic fiber that moves like silk but doesn't stretch, shred or fray like silk.
